Obedience for Children

Our church takes the importance of family very seriously; so seriously it is one of our core values. And God takes it seriously too. God created the family unit in the beginning with Adam and Eve as the first humans, and their children: Cain, Abel, and Seth. We are shown the very first family unit in the book of Genesis.

But all throughout the Bible, God shows us what He wants our family to be like. Parents, as role models, teach their children many things. The Bible tells us that parents should teach children about the training of the Lord (Proverbs 22:6).The Lord also mentioned in Ephesians 6 that He wants children to obey their parents. One of the most important lessons a parent can teach their child is that of obedience. Most people roll their eyes, muttering under their breath that they’ve heard all this junk before. But honestly, we can learn a lot from our parents. God didn’t just put random “quotes” into the Bible. The things we are taught over and over in Sunday school are actually good for us. Colossians 3:20 says,” Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.” Because of the Fall, we are inclined to sin – disobedience being a very obvious example. But when we obey, our eathly parents are pleased and our Heavenly Father is pleased as well!
